Let’s revise “there is” and “there are”!

Look at these examples.


We say:

There is/isn’t a monster. (a + consonant)

But:

There is/isn’t an alien. (an + vowel)

Complete the sentences about the picture with There is or There are.

4. _______________ an MP player on a chair.

5. _______________ a book in the schoolbag.

Look at the picture of Jane’s house. Complete the sentences with There is, There isn’t, There are, or There aren’t.

1. ____________________ a bed.

2. ____________________ two TVs.

3. ____________________ a table.

4. ____________________ five chairs.

5. ____________________ a sofa.

6. ____________________ three windows.

7. ____________________ a dog.

8. ____________________ two books.

Now answer these questions about Jane’s house.

1. Is there a box? Yes, there is.

2. Are there two cats? No, there aren’t.

3. Is there a piano? ____________________

4. Are there two doors? ____________________

5. Is there a computer? ____________________

6. Are there two phones? ____________________


What do you like about your bedroom? Use “there is” and “there are”.

For example: There is a games console and there are photos on the walls.
